Introduction
RX limited is a small healthcare provider to a small community. The company wanted to
automate and integrate its health care business processes and hence achieve higher efficiency and
customer satisfaction. Various services provided by the company are: Primary healthcare
services, Nursing, Hospice services and dentistry. The company implemented ERP in 2007 but
failed to upgrade it to higher versions because of human resource requirements and budget
constraints. Also, the scale and cost of the system was disproportionately high as compared to
the revenues of the company. Hence, the company wanted to eliminate some of the problems
associated with ERP with an alternative software solution.
Discussion of business problem
Healthcare organizations are very cost centric and the over the years it has become difficult to
forecast the expenses and revenues as processes have become more complex with unpredictable
outcomes. Clinical processes, staffing requirements and facilities are the most unique for all
healthcare organizations at the same time the primary cost driver for healthcare organizations is
human resources. The ERP systems in healthcare are designed to manage staffing and care
processes and the same time optimize returns from within the organization. The complex
environment of the healthcare industry has necessitated the need for greater connectivity between
hospitals, insurance companies, government agencies, physicians and patients. Since the
adoption of hospital information systems across Europe has increased, ERP systems would be an
effective way of achieving system wide integration of staffing and patient care processes. The
integration of clinical and nonclinical processes such as supply chain management, patient
scheduling, finance, human resources and other services through an effective ERP application
would help in forecasting resources required for clinical processes.

processes integrating different geographies will take somewhere around 2-3 years from
equirement gathering to Go-live. The company has to put a separate budget, hire consultants and
coordinate with different dept. in different countries. It is a mammoth task.
2. If the company goes for piece-meal approach and implement ERP only in certain
geographies and or only in certain business processes, then interfacing with the older systems
will be a big challenge. Sometimes the ERP Company will not even support such interface
designs.
3. Once the ERP is implemented the existing staff will need extensive training in the new
software, GUI, etc. that, if not planned properly, might hinder the ongoing business of the
company.
4. Once the ERP...
