The following three motivational factors within the travel industry:

  • Providing paid time off for vacation, illness, and holidays – employees will get burned out if continuously working without a break. In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is more important than ever to provide employees with paid time off for illness. When an employee reports to work sick, this act is known as presenteeism (Uzialko, XXXXXXXXXXThis not only makes the employee less productive, but it also creates the conditions for other employees to fall unwell. By offering employees paid time off for sickness, they will be more likely to stay home.

  • Flexible working - Because many travelers also have jobs, they might need to get in touch with someone after regular office hours. This would require adjusting. Some tour operators could choose to run errands in the morning and work in the afternoon and/or evening. This could also include attending activities at their child's school (Parris, XXXXXXXXXXThese agents could assist such customers. Stay-at-home parents would also benefit from the ability to work remotely. With the rising prices of child care, working families would be able to eliminate this payment.

  • Discounts on travel – The travel industry has a program known as “fam” or familiarization trips. In order for travel agents to become familiar with the location, cruise lines, hotels, and resorts provide discounted rates. The agent would then be more inclined to suggest the destination after having seen it for themselves. These discounts can range from 75% off to absolutely free vacations (Global Travel, 2023).

Although I did not specify an industry in which I completed Week 4, Discussion 1, I did write it with the healthcare industry in mind. With that being said, there are definitely some motivational factors and innovations in healthcare that attract and retain quality employees. The three employee benefits that I chose to elaborate on are the following:

Remote Work:

As COVID-19 reared its ugly head around the world, organizations had to be deliberate in creating ways to keep their heads above water and continue their operations. This resulted in a huge transition from traditional office work to creating remote positions. This is a great opportunity for the employees, but it is also a great opportunity for employers. Gosnell indicated that the benefits for employees and employers include enhancing team morale, employs planning for continuity of operations and increases retention and reduces turnover. Team productivity, communication, and corporate objectives are reached more effectively. It saves money for the employer and employee. Lastly, it increases the ability to hire the most qualified candidates. (2023).

Education & Professional Development:

Everyone who works has individual goals. Sometimes it is to promote through the ranks of the organization and sometimes it's to become more proficient at their job. Regardless of those intrinsic motivations, it is important for organizations to acknowledge and nurture those needs because it will increase the recruiting, retention, motivation, and morale of the organization. For the employee, it boosts self-confidence, self-worth, leadership skills, and builds their professional networks. Parsons stated, "professional development can be instrumental in growing a stronger team. Employers who encourage their employees to seek out professional development opportunities are in turn encouraging higher productivity and job satisfaction" (2022).

Flexibility:

In this day in age, where work/life balance is more important than it has ever been, so flexibility is a must. The newest generation entering the workforce values their time away from work and need the opportunity to detach when needed. Some flexibility options include remote work, hybrid work, and PTO opportunities. Emory University studied the benefits of flexibility in the workforce and here's what they found:

A flexible work environment:

  • Increases engagement and productivity

  • Improves business continuity

  • Attracts and retains talent

  • Improves parking on campus

  • Enables effective utilization of space on campus

  • Reduces commute times and traffic congestion

  • Strengthens our commitment to sustainability

  • Supports work-life effectiveness

  • Demonstrates a commitment to the well-being of our employees

  • Promotes diversity and inclusion

(Emory University, 2023).

The motivational factors that are relevant within the travel industry are the contextual elements that not only provide the employees with better pay off. I strongly agree to your point that offering employees leaf during their sickness and providing them the opportunities to work from home can also make the employees productive. This also increases the effectiveness of the workers and increases their trust for the organisation. It is also relevant to mention that in the travel industry the employees have to travel long distance is and has to stay away from their home and family (Islam, 2019). In this aspect it is effective to considered the effective motivational factors in order to retain the employees in the travelling industry. It is also effective to provide accommodation and opportunities for the family of the employees so that they can acknowledge the contribution of the organisation.
Remotely working from the family is often stressful and in most of the situations the employee tends to leave their job. Leave and effective payment on time along with other benefits can also be accomplished in...
