This paper presents an effective analysis of the ethical issues and the ethical culture of the company Lulu Lemon Athletica. The ethical issues of the organization have been critically analyzed. Further, a note on the ways adopted by the company to handle those issues is effectively discussed in this paper. It vehemently focused on the customer and employee relationship of the organization that associated with the culture of the organization. The paper also analyzed the ways that can be adopted in order to avoid negative publicity and it can effectively address the ethical issues in the organization. Lulu lemon Athletica is an apparel company which is based in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada. It is founded in 1998 by Wilson Chip. The apparel store offers various products like fitness pants shorts tops and jackets for fitness programs and other activities. This particular store is known to introduce yoga appearance. The success of this particular apparel company was greatly influenced by the feedback of the yoga instructors. The company operates in three segments; corporate owned and corporate operated retail stores, direct consumer e-commerce website and wholesale avenues. Operating in more than 350 stores it has stores in nations of United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. It has been a successful company offering athletic apparel in the last 20 years and is expected to grow considerably in the future.
However, in spite of the strong mission of the company and its core values the company has faced criticism and controversial issues. The company has faced issues regarding controversies of negative publicity and questionable ethical decisions. This paper will analyze the documented ethical challenges and ethical aspects concerned with Lulu lemon in the case study.
Ethical Issues
The company has faced a series of ethical issues over the years with regard to its corporate culture and business practices. There are several incidents and organizational aspects which led to a negative publicity of Lulu lemon in the market. As stated by a CEO at Lulu lemon that he was pressurized to attend the landmark forum training program by Chip Wilson. However, after that he emphasized that no employees will be pressurized if they lack interest in obtaining the training. Further, in another incident it took to misleading statements of Wilson. Gender biased remarks on women and discriminating comments on the children of third world countries effectively contributed to the negative publicity of the organization (Jackson, 2020).
Misleading advertisements also questioned the business aspects of Lulu lemon. It claimed that Vita Sea products of Lulu lemon where is infused with the Seaweed. However, The New York Times mentioned in one of its articles that there were no seaweeds present in the products of Lulu lemon. Even though these claims were proved wrong but Canada Competition Bureau challenged Lulu lemon for making false claims about the health benefits of seaweed.
