Launched in 1992 with the mission of changing public policy by a group of 51 member companies Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) is a non-profit organization. However, in 1994 the board changed the mission statement to, “Working with companies to integrate social and environmental considerations into their core business.” This approach has been the cornerstone of mission ever since. The primary focus is on influencing companies’ implementation of corporate responsibility. Four core program areas were established, namely

With the emergence of internet as a daily life transformative feature, first comprehensive website specifically dedicated to social responsibility was launched. During 2000 – 2005 sustainability was embedded into the daily business decisions.
In continuation to their commitment to collaborative initiatives, they recently have developed more collaborative initiatives that help companies across industries and sectors to focus on issues like energy and women empowerment.
