· Case study: 1 Return to Salyut
· In the current case study, the cosmonauts in the capsule are at risk.
· All the three cosmonauts are finally dead.
· The explosive energy employed to fire the connecting bolts of the commanding module with the orbital module has resulted in the opening of the pressure evaluation valve and ultimately resulted in pressure loss.
· The source of the risk is the energy explosion and the subsequent loss of pressure due to the release of evaluation valve.
· The system was vulnerable as the valves could not get closed manually. The actual energy required to close the valve is much larger than the actual possible closure with physical energy possible in the conditions prevailing there in the capsule at that instant.
· Also the number of cosmonauts contained in the capsule are more than their design capacity. Actual design is meant for two cosmonauts but actually there are three in number. The work system became vulnerable as the cosmonauts in that condition could not able to operate the valve closure.
Comments: The conditions would have been averted if there precautions taken during the bolt explosion as well if the capsule is loaded only with two cosmonauts.
