The Chief Executive of your company has recently heard that one of the competitor companies has adopted an externally validated health and safety management system to reduce incident rates and improve health and safety culture.

The Chief Executive is interested in the concept of health and safety management systems but knows very little about them in terms of evidence base and credibility. As the Health and Safety Manager for the company you have been tasked with producing a fully referenced 2000 word technical report that explains; what a health and safety management system is including the benefits and any possible risks to the organisation of adopting one.

Health and safety management system refer to the process that is put in the pace by the health and safety manager or the employer. This is done for minimizing the risk of illness as well as injury. In this report, secondary research has been done. The secondary research provided evidence about the health and safety management system. For this purpose, various journals, articles and Australian websites are used, which provided relevant data to the topic. Only latest books, journals and articles that are published on or after 2014 are selected. These journals, articles and books have helped the researcher to conduct the research successfully. Health and safety management system have various benefits and risks that are discussed based on the evidence found in the secondary research.

Boyle (2015) mentioned that the effective health and safety management system should include eight components. The eight components include:
