Addressing the Effects of Pollution from Fossil Fuel Use: Are Behavior Changes Effective Solution?
Introduction & Thesis Statement
Varied comprehensive form of academic and scholarly assessments pertaining to pollution resulting from increasing concentrations in anthropogenic form of Green House Gases (“GHGs”) by using fossil fuels represents a primary driver for global warming, consequently leading to climate change, starting middle part of the 20th century. Whilst concentrations concerning GHGs within the atmosphere of Earth can be noted to have transformed all through the history, lead to seven cycles in glacial advances / retreats over last ~650,000 years, rapid levels of increases with respect to both concentrations of GHG and the ensuing global temperature levels that are observed at present can be stated to be incomparable with any of the rates observed in time periods that range from decades to the millennia (Seinfeld & Pandis, 2016; Sicard et al., 2016; Ravindra et al., 2019). The principle effect of pollution from fossil fuel usage, that is, climate change can be stated to be a defining and critical global challenge in the cu
ent times. Rapid levels of changes towards global climate in the past many decades has already led to widespread form of impacts in the human societies as well as the natural systems. This continued changes and the changes of the magnitude faced shall lead to severe as well as i
eversible impacts on planet Earth that could last many thousands of years which may further threaten people, communities, flora, and fauna across the globe.
In this context, as a root cause studies agree in that the humans form primary driver with respect to global warming, as well as that the process has been taking place at the pace that is unprecedented pace. The same needs increased level of political will for acting as well as delivering over agreed targets for global temperature in avoiding a highly catastrophic consequence. The thesis statement, and a solution of this problem, is that the application of behavioral insights as a foundation for developing effective form of approaches as well as spotlighting solutions which are already deployed across the globe shall be an important way forward to address this problem.
Problem
The e
as well as flow with respect GHG emissions within atmosphere can be noted to be directly affiliated with the respective sources as well as sinks. Sources for GHGs entail anything which leads to the increase in the emissions of GHG, like that of burning of fossil fuels, decomposition, as well as employing chemical fertilizers. Sinks entail anything which shall store GHGs, like that of soils, the ocean, and forests (Seinfeld & Pandis, 2016; Sicard et al., 2016; Ravindra et al., 2019).

These aggregate level cumulative emissions concerning GHGs, that are increasing rapidly, shall lock the impacts concerning climate change over time periods spanning centuries as well as potentially millennia. The effective responses towards climate crises necessitate robust form of understanding concerning all of the sectors which contribute towards projected warming (Perera, 2016; Silva et al., 2017; La
& Neidell, 2016). The overall need for tackling the emissions by way of varied sectors can be noted to be well understood, as well as newer technologies seems to be generating significant opportunities with respect to faster de-ca
onization. Climate change essentially represents immense form of a challenge towards human behavior, on account of it being abstract, of larger scale, far off, as well as that impersonal characteristics fail to trigger...
