Like other video game companies, Mega-Vid is facing increasing criticism from people who are concerned that video games encourage violent behavior. Your job is to write a strategic plan that helps Mega-Vid address this issue.

To prepare for writing your strategic plan, you will first need to understand why Mega-Vid is facing criticism. Then, use the Project resources to explore how companies in other industries have coped with negative public opinion. Think about whether any of their strategies and tactics can be adapted to address Mega-Vid’s problem.

To create your strategic plan:

  1. Define the problem, or set of problems, you are trying to solve.
  2. Do some brainstorming about potential solutions. Look at the Project resources about how other companies have approached criticism. You may be able to adapt some of their approaches to solve Mega-Vid's problem. Would any of those approaches work here? Why or why not?
  3. Decide which solution you will recommend to address Mega-Vid's problem. How will it solve the problem you identified in step one?
  4. Consider your strategy. What is your overall goal?
  5. Consider what tactics will be necessary to carry out your plan. In other words, how will you achieve the strategic goal you identified in step four? What changes might you make to the product or the way it is marketed?

Video game industry is highly emerging in this twenty first century. A number of studies have identified gaming industry is giving a huge competition to the movie industry in terms of revenue. Unlike movies, games are also segmented into various categories like action, adventure, strategy, stealth, racing, sports and so on. Moreover, games are also made for particular people based on their age (Keim, 2013). This study is focused on a multinational game developing company named ‘Mega-vid’. Recently the company received criticism by people due to sharing violation through their developed video games. A
ief discussion about the issue is presented in the following section.
The problem
A game development process is highly complicated and time taking approach. In that situation, if a company does not features that all gamers are expecting then companies will face a significant amount of loss. As per the recent studies it is identified that action-adventure is the most lovable gaming genre among gamers (Do
owolski et al. 2015). Mega-vid is also a game developer concerned with generating profit and they make action games. In order to meet customer’s demand the company has included a number of
utal killing scenes, in-game action sequence, cut scenes into their recently published video games. Due to this particular activity a number of people have criticised the company by saying those games have encouraged violent behaviour among the people who played it. Game developing companies often gets criticized due to these sort of issues. To solve those criticisms the company can apply number of strategies as their solution. The first one is providing clarification to audiences and other one is changing gameplay mechanism through which they will able to censor violence cut scenes, words and graphics. Giving clarification to media is probably the best option the company can have. The company also can offer free games or other marketing strategies to avoid the criticism until it moves out from lime light. This is a strategy to avoid criticism in a smart way however, possibility of solving the issue is significantly less.
Identification of solution applied by organisations to manage similar problems
There is a US based game developing company named ‘Naughty Dog’ received criticism back in 2018 when they released a trailer for their upcoming video game ‘The Last of Us 2’. A number of ruthless killing sequences were shown in that trailer which drew criticism for promoting violence. In order to handle the situation vice president of Sony (Parent company of Naughty Dog) responded ‘A game made by adults, to be played by adults’ (Sliver, 2018).
In that situation, the company mentioned their target customers to press, and pointed out that customers are concerned enough to bear those violent scenes and they definitely aware about the difference between ‘video games’ and ‘reality’.
Application of resource:
    Reports have revealed the company ‘Naught Dog’ is a popular among gamers, as they have made some critically acclaimed games like ‘Uncharted’ and ‘The last of Us’.
