Equality as a perspective truth
What exactly does equality mean? Does it mean the same to everyone? The Oxford Dictionary of English, defines equality as "The state of being equal, especially in status, rights, or opportunities". While this definition is too perfect to be practical, it gives us a very vivid idea about the goal set by idealists when it comes to gender equality. Such a high goal, even as it remains unachieved, has inspired and motivated women to dream of a world when they will no longer be considered inferior to men or looked down upon.
When men talk about equality they picture opportunities and rights. But when women talk about equality, they majorly picture status and rights. Biologically, men and women are different and there is no scope for argument in that. It's a proven science. However, women seeking equality has more to do with improving their image in the eyes of others rather than creating achievements based on their gender.
Women have done anything and everything to this end. This includes active participation in military and various other male-focussed roles. However, the results have still been unsatisfactory. Inequality still prevails not just in the military but in every other industry (Benschop and Doorewaard 787–805). This has majorly been due to the attitude of men more than anything else. As a result opportunities to women have always been restricted.
Women in the military have called for equal treatment and opening up of battlefront roles to them for a while now. However, only 70% of military jobs are open to women...
