(a) A motion for judgment on the pleadings. 
Once all the pleadings have been filed, a motion of judgment on the pleadings can be filed 
by either of the parties. The failure of the plaintiff to state a cause of action is the reason 
behind this. This motion is adequate when all the facts are agreed upon by all the parties 
and the question rises on how the law applies to those facts.  
 
(b) A motion for a directed verdict. 
At the conclusion of the plaintiff case during the trial, a direct verdict can be undertaken by 
the defendant.
