Patterns of Natural Selection

Patterns of Natural selection of Polygenic traits
There might be observed three patterns of selection in context of phenotype of organisms with
the passage of time. These may be described as follows:
Directional selection
If organisms’ fitness which is determined via endurance and reproduction (fitness) could be
found higher with one extreme phenotype in comparison to other organisms who lie in the
category of population's mean phenotype then, this can be expected that the frequency of such
trait would follow the direction of the favored intense phenotype over time. Because of this,
directional transformation in the average characteristic significance over time could be found as
a net result. (Fu and Li, 1993)
Patterns of Natural Selection

For instance; initially peppered moth could reflect a range of colors; pale, speckled and black etc.
But, due to release of smoke from factories in Northern Britain, black color which could be
egarded as; one acute end of the series of colors could be favored while, other colors could not
