way. Often many students claim that completing the application is a test in itself. But this
test determines how oriented students are and how well they follow the instructions.
College application also demonstrates what students have done in the past three years

they were doing in their free time and what are the future aspirations of the student. An
application should represent a student as a whole, and what they expect to do for the
community in the future.
In any given year, colleges across the globe, receive lakhs of applications for admission
from prospective students, all competing for the same seat. In recent years, many
students applying for college and universities, all across the globe find it incredibly easy
to lie, while filling in the application of one’s dream college. These can range from
misrepresenting activities, awards, academics, criminal records or any personal
information. Students’ sometimes twist the truth to gain an edge over the other applicant
and avoid competition. In the eyes of college, untruth, partial truth, omissions or
exaggerations on one’s application are termed as one and the same thing.
But why are student lying on a college application? That’s an important question one
need to address. Firstly it’s the pressure of being granted admission to a dream
university, that students get from family, friends and self that they find it easier to cook
up a lie. Secondly, sometimes students are confident that their resume to college, might
not be impressive and not impress the college university personnel, so they try to fine
tune the facts here and there to get an overall better impression. A lie doesn’t
necessarily mean an outright false statement. Information omission can also be
considered as an out-an-out lie.
