There could be observed a close relationship among these diseases since; all of these are 
concerned with errors in “Phenylalanine metabolism”. The pathway of phenylalanine 
metabolism can be represented as follows:
With the assistance of above diagram, it can be analyzed that there are numerous 
enzymes which are required for the purpose of conversion of phenylalanine into several 
biochemical products and absence of any of these enzymes can result in illness (es) for instance; 
Phenylketouria (PKU) may occur owing to the absence of enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase 
(as a result of an autosomal recessive mutation) which takes part in the conversion of 
phenylalanine into tyrosine. Consequently, a transamination reaction takes place that forms 
phenylpyruvic acid (instead of tyrosine) which gets accumulated in the body and when its levels 
exceed then it can be released into urine (Hanley, 2004).
