DOES YOUR MYERS-BRIGGS PERSONALITY TYPE INFLUENCE THE LEADERSHIP STYLE THAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU?
Leadership plays an important role in guiding individuals towards a strategic direction of achieving goals and aims (Buchner, 2007). Without a proper leadership it becomes difficult to select the best way of accomplishing tasks and achieving organisational goals. The study discusses the ways in which the Myers Briggs Personality Type affects the style of leadership which works best for me. The Locke's Goal Setting Theory and Charismatic Leadership theory has been discussed to explain the concept of leadership.
According to De Vries et al. (2010), leadership is a very important aspect which helps an organisation to achieve success. The value of guidance and direction which a leader provides cannot be understated. According to the Theory of Locke setting of goals helps in identifying a direction where effort needs to be placed (Dewan and Myatt, 2008). This theory indicates towards vision which is a set of goals that needs to be achieved. Vision also prevents from wastage of effort and ability of an individual. For instance, the leadership of Steve Jobs has led Apple Inc to become what it is today. The vision of the company Apple Inc is to change the world which is developed by Steve Jobs. Thus I can conclude that leaders direct an organisation towards success with the help of developing an effective and motivating vision. I have always followed a vision of “being a person whom other wants to follow”. This vision has helped in becoming an effective leader.
Another important theory in relation to the role of leadership is the Charismatic Leadership theory (Erez, 1977). According to Charismatic Leadership theory, an effective leader is able to convert an individual into a group with the help of communication. Communication plays an important role in achieving organisational and leadership goals (Levi, 2006). According to the CEO of FedEx, T Michael Glenn, an idea which cannot be communicated holds no value. I can conclude that communication is an important quality of a leader and communication depends on the ability of a leader of conveying the message with the same meaning. Thus I have always tried to communicate with the staff members to provide them a co
ect direction. Whenever the staffs require guidance in understanding the co
ect method of completion of work, my communication has helped me in this context....
