Personal Reflection of Communication
Introduction
The report aims to analyse the findings of diagnostic tools and the key issues that
have taken place in my communication style. It elaborates the two perspective related with
the communication issues. The literature review is conducted to reveal the importance of
these issues for communication. Along with this, the report proposes conclusion and action
plan. In the action plan, the reader plan, Gantt chart, and other relevant factors and strategies
are mentioned.

The model is used to understand the communication issues of a person. This has four
quadrants. These are known as known, unknown, blind and hidden areas. The window in it
divides the communication and interaction in these four areas (Luft, 1969). The arena is
known to a person and to other people as well. The facade is known only to the person. The
lind spot are known to others only. The unknown area is not known to a person and others.
In arena people know the information they know and other know as well the things such as
name, family, work, personal appearance, capabilities and qualification. The area helps
people to understand and promote the own image. The area if is known other very well that
individual interacts with the society freely. In my case my known area or arena is surprisingly
short to only those people whom I interact on daily basis and even they do not know about
my work and family and my location of living. This reveals that I am not much familiar to

people around me and they only do know me as much as is required to make a professional
elations.
The facade area is hidden from others. Here a person hides his feelings, thoughts,
hopes and fears as well as pride, shame, dislikes and precious things that a person refuse to
share. It may not be reduced permanently but in my case I found that I do not have many
friends and only working relationship have been established with others. This demonstrates
that my facade area should be reduced.
The area of blind spot is known to others but due to not sharing my feelings and
thoughts as well as not having regular interaction, I am largely unaware with the blind spot or
my shortcomings. When I initiate this model to practice, than I come to know that there are
various communication shortcomings such as I do not respond to the questions asked to me
all the time, I keep a professional distance from others, I do not like to enjoy the party and I
have very selective friends. I do not welcome the constructive criticism from others and do
not promote feedback from others. Therefore I am largely unaware about my shortcomings.
The part unknown is not known to me and others as well. This area may hide hidden
gems of my personality that I can explore and communication style may be improved but this
is not exposed. I may come to know the deepest feelings as well as prejudices that I have and
easons why I behave in such a way. When I practiced this model, I came to know many
things that surprise me.
First thing is that I consider as egoist who does not listen much and does not have
participative approach. I am regarded as a person who believes in ethnocentric approach
where I am considered to promote only my own values and beliefs who does not support
other feelings and ideologies more often.

Assertiveness questionnaire
This questionnaire assists me to gain good understanding about the communication
issues. The purpose of the assertive questionnaire is to measure the person proficiency in the
assertive components such as even there is difficult to express, a person expresses his wants,
needs and thoughts and when it is difficult to respect a person respects what other wants,
think and need. The measurement of questions reveals certain key things. One is that I
express my opinion when I have a disagreement with others but I do not listen the opinion of
others when I disagree with them. The questions are close ended questions and generally
elated with how I reveal my feelings or how I respect other feelings. It demonstrates that
while I am assertive enough to tell others that what my feelings I generally ignore this fact
are that what they feel about me. I do not pay heed to their suggestions and in disagreement; I
may tend to differ with them.
BEVI model
The belief, events and values inventory assessment tool has been used to identify the
communication issues. BEVI model is integrated with emotional intelligence model and it
identifies and predicts the variety of affective, developmental and attribution processes and
esults (Shealy, 2004). It provides a systematic view about the beliefs and values that are
associated with the ethnocentricism, programs of inquiry, religious tolerance, partisanship,
gender based policies to explore the psychology of reductionism.
The scale reveals that I have developed ethnocentric approach and do not have
empathy and sincerity towards other cultural aspects and feelings. This demonstrates that I
am not able to change my perceptions easily and do not promote a polycentric approach that
