Stigma is the reinforcement of that ignorance with sanctioning against those who dare disobey. It can involve badmouthing, barring from economic or community opportunities, diminishing or discontinuing personal relationships, and other methods of isolating someone or trying to get them to "shape up". The following essay deals in developing mental health policy to combat stigma associated with mental health issues.
Ways in which Development of Mental Health Policy Might Decrease Stigma Attached to Mental Health Disorders
One cannot make other people any less ignorant or any less stigmatizing of mental health struggles. One can certainly offer information, and live as an example of more constructive ways to address the issue of health and healthcare. The more people talk about their own issues, particularly influential people generally considered flawless, the easier it will be for the rest to be accept. Better knowledge on the part of the general public about the psychiatric disorders, their natural course, and effective treatments can help to reduce the associated stigma.
As mentioned by Eriksson, Ghazinour and Hammarstrom (2018), at primary level, it will also help in the infrastructure development of hospital to treat mental illness and deliver more mental healthcare services. Collaboration of national mental health with existing general healthcare services would help in eradicating stigma of mental illness, early detection and follow up process and also setting rehabilitation centers (Stuart, 2016).
Aspects to be included in the Policy
Mental illness is not covered in many countries’ Health Insurance companies, if person is not having Health Insurance before, then h/she should not be cover.
