Summary:Obtain a state survey for a skilled nursing facility. You can do this by downloading the survey from the web athttp://www.medicare.gov/nursinghomecompare/search.html, or by visiting the facility and obtaining the survey from the administrator. State surveys are public information and have to be available for anyone that asks for them.

Please write a paper that critiques their survey.Do you think the deficiencies were valid? If their plan of correction is indicated,do youagree that their plan of correction would prevent the same deficiencies from happening in the future? What types of incidents that may be litigated could come from a result of those deficiencies and how would attorneys exploit the survey and use it to their advantage in court? Please do not be confined to these questions as you explore the survey process.Prior surveys are also available through the website given above. You can use surveys from prior years as a basis of comparison to see if the facility improved its ratings.

The paper should be 5-8 pages double-spaced.The paper should be submitted no later than 11:00 p.m. PST on 10/15.Although, it is better to save your paper in the Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx) with a title of the file set as your last name & “midterm” (e.g. smith_midterm.docx). You can submit through Blackboard by clicking on the title of the assignment, which opens a page where you can upload your Microsoft Word file.Required format is 12 point font with one-inch margins.Citations can be in APA or MLA format. If you have any problems submitting the assignment through Blackboard, you can e-mail the paper XXXXXXXXXX.

Added details re instructions:

Be sure that if you use the Nursing Home Compare tool to get information about the facility that you review the full report. You can pull up the full report by clicking on the link next to the date of the last inspection, which is located under the Inspections and Complaints tab.

You can use citations from the readings or your own research to support your analysis of the survey.

Also, pay attention to the types of deficiencies that are documented in the survey. How many people are likely to be affected by the problem, i.e. would it impact many of the residents or few? What are the likely consequences of the deficiency? Are they serious?Look at the survey from several different perspectives – that of the administrator, the regulator/inspector, the customer/patient.Does that change your analysis of how serious the deficiencies are?

You can look at the Quality Measures Tab on Nursing Home Compare tool to see an evaluation of the quality of care based on resident assessment (MDS) information.Does the Quality Measures Rating seem consistent with the inspection report?Explain why it is inconsistent or consistent with the inspection.

Introduction
The paper conducts the research on the survey of a skilled nursing facility. The
nursing facility selected for the survey analysis is Che
y Valley Healthcare. Che
y
Valley Healthcare offers services related to short-term care for rehabilitation or long
term skilled care. It provides highly individualized care through the team of licensed
nurses as well as certified staff which is highly dedicated towards the physical, social as
well as spiritual well being of each of the residents.
Analysis
Che
y Valley Healthcare has got an overall rating of 4 out of 5 in the Star Rating
Summary. The hospital cu
ently has 132 certified beds and participates in the Medicare
and Medicaid. The subsequent survey ratings of the hospital are as follows:
Parameter Rating (out of 5)
Overall Rating Above Average (4)
Health Inspection Average (3)
Staffing Above Average (4)
Quality Measures Above Average (4)
The last inspection for the hospital was conducted on 12/02/2012. The survey
outlined nine healthcare deficiencies for Che
y Valley Healthcare compared to the
average of 10.3 health deficiencies among the hospitals in California. However, the
hospital lacks far behind the average of the number of health deficiencies in United
States of 6.8.
The inspectors of the Che
y Valley Healthcare also determined that the nursing
home has failed towards developing a complete care plan with a view towards meeting
all of the resident’s needs along with timetables from which the actions could be
measured. The inspection also suggested that the nursing home needs to make sure that
the doctors of the hospitals should visit the residents regularly as required by the
egulators.
Based on the analysis of the survey, I do feel that most of the deficiencies outlines
in the inspection are valid. The regulators try to build a service and healthcare quality
standards for the patients
esidents the nursing home is serving. So in view of those
quality standards they do a highly appreciable job in making sure that all of the nursing
homes are up to the mark in the quality standards outlined.
Also, as per the survey report based on the confidential group interview
conducted on Che
y Valley Hospital, the facility has primarily failed towards ensuring
the dignity of the 8 out of the twelve residents that are located in the east wing. These
esidents were the ones that were not being provided with the direct care which is
certainly bad on the part of the hospital.
There are several factors within patient care which lead to emergencies that
should not have been. There was this patient, during my practice tenure, who was
admitted for an orthopedic surgery. The regular morphine dosages were given to the
patient but, there were some respiratory issues he was facing. When the doctor was
notified, it came to be known that the doctor was not aware of the patient’s history and,
from what he knew he felt the morphine dosage needed an increase. But,...
