La Trobe University organises an “End of the Year Ball” for staff and students. The ViceChancellor (VC) of the university is concerned about the security at the campus. He advises the department responsible for security matters on the campus to approach the local police regarding security issues on the night of the Ball. The VC also fears that some students from other universities may gate crash the party and create nuisance at the campus. Senior Sergeant Ratty advises the university officials that he would have a police van periodically patrolling the area during the Ball. The university wants two police officers on duty on the dance floor and a stationary police van at the campus. Sergeant Ratty agrees to the university’s request. He, however, advises that there would be an extra cost for the services of the police officer. The university officials believe that it is the duty of the police to protect the safety of individuals in Victoria hence no extra payment for the police services may be required. Later, the police send an invoice of $5,000 for their services. The university refuses to pay. Does La Trobe University have to pay for the amount owing on the invoice? (10 marks) 2. The management committee of an accounting firm Dodgy Accounts Associates meets to discuss applications for the position of a senior accountant. The committee decides to appoint Mr. Dowell as the senior accountant for the firm. One of the committee members Mr. Welwisha is asked by the committee to contact all the unsuccessful candidates, which he does. Mr. Welwisha also sends a telegram to Dowell informing him that he has been appointed as the senior accountant for the firm. The telegram advises Mr. Dowell that a formal letter of appointment is in the mail. Upon receiving the telegram Mr. Dowell posts a letter accepting the committee’s offer and suggests a date when he might commence his job. The committee meets again and decides not to appoint Dowell for the job. This report is based on two organizations that are widely regarded excellent in their industry. 
In this report, the brief justification of organizations and reasons for selecting these 
organizations are stated.  The reasons why the industries have been perceived excellent have 
been stated. In this report, it is also explained how these organizations has achieved its 
current standing in the market by applying excellence theories. The two global organizations 
are such as Apple and Google which are considered excellent in their respective domains of 
technology in-terms of hardware and software(Shin, J., Park, J.T,   2006).  
2. Description 
Apple 
Paragraph 1 
Apple is an American brand which is known for its quality products such as I-phones, Mac 
Books, laptops, I-tunes and I-pads. It has been creating strong brand image in market in a 
niche manner and was founded by Steve Jobs in 1980‟s(Roper, J,  2005).  This company has 
been selected because it is always creating something new for its customers all across globe 
with superior features and applications in its products.  It is being perceived as excellent in its 
field because it is always ahead of its competitors by making things simpler.  From its 
product designing process to brand endorsement Apple provides a unique experience to its 
customers in an excellent manner(Yousef D. A, 2000).  
Paragraph 2 
The autocratic leadership theory has been applied by Apple‟s past CEO Steve Job in 
company to focus on its organizational excellence process. Steve Jobs applied autocratic 
leadership theories which pushed the employees to perform in a superior manner in fixed 
period of time(Pang, A., Cropp, T,  2006). Apple used mantra to design product with 
interaction of hardware and software on end to end basis. Apple is known excellent in 
industry because it produced products which were reliable for customers all across the globe.  
It has been highly focusing on innovating something new which adds value to the customers 
with better marketing and communication process. Apple is known for its excellence because, 
foundation of its company was made strong by Steve jobs who forced his decisions at 
workplace from top to bottom level, clarified the roles of each employees and created solid 
deadlines for employees working in teams and on individual basis. Apple achieve its current 
stand in market by applying autocratic management and leadership style at its workplace by 
hiring best talents from all across the globe who could provide better customer experiences 
and involving customers through „”usability testing” or “participatory designing process”. 
Apple has been intellectually challenging its competitors by offering compatible devices to its 
customers which can entertain them.
