Should Google and Facebook be allowed to sell our Data?
Google and Facebook claim that they do not sell our data, but they have been blamed of doing so. For this, they also had to face legal hassles. In my opinion, Facebook should not sell our personal data but yes, they can sell any publicly available data. Speaking in favor of selling our data, I believe that if any data is searched for in public, and it is not related to anyone’s personal or private interests, then these can be sold to the related organizations.
For example, if there is a search done on Google for smartphones under $100 repeatedly and many people are searching for it, then that can be sold to the related mobile companies for informing them about such potential customers. Then those companies can give Google Ads as pop-ups when the interested users are searching, so that their search for smartphones under $100 is fulfilled. Thus, this kind of data can be sold benefitting the users, without hampering their personal information privacy (Park & Skoric, 2017). In fact, such kind of data selling is actually helping the people, who want such information, by providing them with the required data about the mobile phones or any other things that they want to buy.
However, if I have to speak against selling our data then I have many points to say.
