Questions to think about for your summary of Chapter 6:How do we define social deviance?Does the definition of deviance vary from culture to culture?Is social deviance a threat to the stability of society?Do definitions of deviance change in different cultures change over time and if so what are some of the causes for change?What sanctions can society but on social deviance to control behavior?

These questions serve as a guide and you do not have to answer every question in your summary. In general, if you have answered 5 of the questions in your summary, you have done enough. This summary should also follow standard essay format. do not want to see a summary that simply lists the questions and then answers them. A summary that is not in standard essay format will not receive a grade

	Social deviance is a term used in social sciences to describe all social acts that violate socially accepted behavioral norms and ethical principles, or, in some cases, words and pictures. The word social deviance is much wider than violence because it relates mainly all of the social factors causing influence to the social order (Pg. 142). The types of deviance include formal and informal. Formal deviance is the violation of the social rules through activities like murder, theft and robbery etc. Informal deviance occurs when the social norms are challenged through nonverbal cues like protests. 
	Secondly, it is important to understand the relation of culture with social deviance because they are like compliment to each other and over time, cultures vary from each other and within the same society (Pg. 142).  In the same way, crime meanings change with time.
