Part A
Introduction
Nursing professionals contribute to the process of holistic are and they have been recognised as the important link to develop safe workplace practices. In fact, as nursing professionals, they have to ca
y out some specific procedures that ensure patient safety and it is because of the fact that they have been deployed into various care settings (Carter, Rooney & Notter, 2021, 31).
They have to work as the functional unit in between the patients and the care system, in which the patients are placed (Clarke, 2021, 105096). The following paper examines how nursing advocacy for safe workplace practices should take place in Australian care system and how role of leadership in delegation should be applied in order to avoid negative outcomes in patient care.
Advocacy, Patient care and Safe Workplace Practices
At first, it is significant to note here that the patient care and management of professional interests for nursing professionals are the key highlights of modern Australian healthcare system. The ongoing concerns for nursing professionals are not only related to the effective procedures applied to develop highest degree of care but also they are related to take care of their professional anticipations from the system.
In the context of developing safe workplace practices, nursing professionals are mainly concerned about three themes of care namely—
i. The active engagement of patients in the process of care,
ii. The development of professional relationship with the patients as well as their families and
iii. Following the principles of guidance, which help them to sustain the quality care model (Martyn & Paliadelis, 2019, 113).
Patient care involves the process of helping the patients and their families to provide a walkthrough pertaining to the medical procedures, which the patients are about to receive (Mellor, Gregoric & Gillham, 2017, 400). Additionally, it is generally noted that the patients and their families are not usually aware about the policies of the hospital or the care setting, in which they are placed. They also do not have ideas about the care process that is likely to be applied over the patient.
Thus, a sort of psychological security is expected on their behalf and it is the first standpoint, through which nursing professionals ensure safe and active engagement of patients in the care system (Kalaitzidis & Jewel, 2020, 81). They inform the patients about the process and address all of their concerns related to the care process or linked to the care policy of the hospital.
At the same time, professional accountability is linked to the development of professional relationship with the patients. Nursing professionals are responsible for ca
ying out the best mode of professional behaviour that leads to positive interventions in the process of care (Gotterson, Buising & Manias, 2020, 103787). When it comes to the management of professional and personal work life balance, they are also expected to manage their own needs and expectations from the system as well. Modern advocacy norms are subjected to provide these options to them in Australian healthcare system overall.
Leadership Role and Delegation
Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia has published guidelines related to the structure of professional liabilities for registered nurses. As a leading role player in the healthcare settings, nursing professionals are encouraged to adhere to the best leadership model that can assist them in prioritising the needs and expectations of the service users from healthcare system. By ensuring that safe patient care model is delivered, the...
