Final Experiment Proposal on Unique Enzyme
For your final assignment to encapsulate what you’ve learned over the semester, you are asked to design an experiment or diagnostic to be performed on your own unique enzyme to add to our understanding of the molecule or function using techniques discussed/used in lab this semester.
The final document should be ~ 1 page in length. Please be sure to be thorough and always explain WHY you are proposing your method for full credit.
Be sure to proofread, spellcheck, and grammar check your document. Ideally, this is a proposal demonstrating your capacity to fully understand biochemical laboratory techniques, and you should be proud of your perfected work!
Things to include:
1. What is your experimental question? Why would answering this question be important for our understanding of biochemistry? Why is there a NEED for this information?
2. Which of our experimental techniques would you use and WHY? Be specific about why! Think about molecules that react to visible light, what wavelength, is it specific to only the products or substrates. Think about enzyme activity and how it is detected. Think about separation of molecules and which properties make your enzyme specific. Think about whether or not a buffer is needed and why. Which would you choose and why? Justify why your method will work to collect the data you need to answer your question.
3. Consider your possible results. What will they mean and why? Will you be able to draw conclusions about your enzyme to address your research question? Why or why not?
