  5. Lung Cancer

  7. Pancreatic Cancer
  8. Prostate Cancer
  9. Thyroid Cancer
Part B – Gather and record information

Using reputable sources of information, record:

  1. Name(s) – Many types of cancer have several different names. What other names is the cancer known as?
  2. Description – Describe the cancer. What are the effects on the body? How are the cells in the body affected? How does it eventually kill someone?
  3. Known Causes – What causes/factors make it more likely that someone would get the cancer? Be as specific as possible.
  4. Symptoms – What symptoms could warn someone that they might have that cancer? What symptoms indicate that it is getting more serious? What medical technology might be used to test for this type of cancer?
  5. Treatment – What would a doctor recommend to treat the cancer? What are the trade-offs between the different options? What would the side effects be? What would the prognosis of the treatment be? What would be the patient’s life expectancy be before and after treatment?
  6. Prevention – Not all cancers can be prevented, however, there are things people can do to reduce the risk of getting cancer. Outline some of the preventions people can take to reduce their risk of getting that cancer.
Part C – Organize

Task 2: APA citation

Develop a reference list in APA format of the sources you used to create your website or podcast, including any images and videos. You will be submitting your reference list to your teacher.

Task 3: Communicate

Now that you’ve gathered information about your topic, you will need to create your Cancer Awareness Announcement.

Your announcement should include the following information:

  1. Known causes and symptoms
  2. Effective treatment methods
  3. Prevention methods

You can communicate the information in any of the following formats:

  1. Brochure
  2. Podcast
  3. Poster/Infographic
  4. Storyboard for an animated PSA
  5. Filmed commercial
