INTRODUCTION
In the late 1950’s, the origin of culture in Britain and its influence on society is varied from each other. In this project, we will discuss the parochial viewpoint of the people during that time and how they live their life with fewer technologies and facilities. The paper will describe the lifestyle of Stephanie Shirley in 1950 and how she managed to change the perspectives of the society by her actions. It will also identify the devices, tools, or appliances used in that era and also describe the gender differences in education and industry culture.
THE BRITAIN CULTURE
In the 1950’s people are very na
ow-minded which create a great change in their lives. Society was male-dominated where the life of women is considerably low. Even, many homes do not have basic facilities for telephone, electricity and water sanitation. The predominant of Second World War could be seen everywhere as the homes were damaged and people were forced to live unrepaired houses without any electricity. In that era, women are considered to stay at home and to raise children. Many women were unable to seek first education, and the parents won't allow them to work outside. There was a male-dominated society in education, household responsibilities, children's care and many more (Cochrane & Kira, 2013).
During that time, there was very less technology as women used ovens and washing machines which are commonly used by them. The microwave has been introduced in the 1970's and also refrigerator was not attached to the fridge which is a new concept founded by the United Kingdom after some years. Women's were not allowed to use vehicles as it was only for men's that shows a conservative perspective of the people for women’s. Women had indulged in household work with less use of technology hardly making them free from the daily work. The washing machine and dryer was not attached to each other, and very few families can afford both the technology at the same time (Hinton & James, 2002).
The education sector was almost male-dominated as women’s were not allowed to go outside to seek education. In 1920's, not even half women's were educated as compared to the men to seek both first degree and higher degree.
