Given is the equation called IPAT equation as
Impact = Population x consumption/person x impact/per unit of consumption
i.e. I = PAT
Here this equation described the impact of human activity on the environment.  There are three factors which when multiplied equals to impact.  The three factors are Population, consumption/person and impact per unit of consumption.
A is also referred to as affluence and T as technology.
The idea behind this equation is human activity such as population, affluence and technology have an impact on the environment.
A suitable example is say our food items.  The food items excluding milk and non vegetarian are produced by crops.  Thus agriculture is the main source of getting any vegetarian food other than milk.
