To cut a 53 teeth spur gear using a milling machine following steps has to be taken:
1. Calculate the gear tooth dimensions for manufacturing
2. Indexing calculation
As the number of teeth can’t be easily divided into the hole plate therefore a differential indexing technique has to be used.
3. The tail stock and dividing head are attached on the machining table with machine.
4. The gear blank is mounted using the mandrel between the tail stock and dividing head of the machine.
5. The cutting wheel is then mounted on the machine and accurately cantering with the gear blank.
6. The speed of cutting and tool feed is set into the machine
7. All the reading in micrometre are reset to zero.
8. The machine is started and feed is given to the cutting tool to cut the first groove of the blank
