Unit 1: Animal
Systems
Describe a unique feature of the mammal’s anatomy (digestive, circulatory, and
espiratory). Explain the connection between the feature and the systems.
Describe the diet of the mammal as it relates to macromolecules (ca
ohydrates, fats,
proteins).
Unit 2: Evolution Describe some of the evolutionary mechanisms that have enabled the mammal to
compete, survive, and reproduce.
- Mating habits
- Hunting habits
- Dietary choice
- Etc.
Unit 3: Biodiversity Provide the scientific name.
Provide a general description of the mammal.
Include a chart that shows each taxonomic category.
Provide a sketch of your mammal.

Unit 1: Animal System
Q1 : / 4
Q2 : / 2
Question 1: Describe a unique feature of the mammal’s anatomy (digestive, circulatory, and respiratory).
Explain the connection between the feature and the systems.
Unique feature : Digestive System: The most notable features of the platypus digestive
system are the bill, dentition, mouth, and tongue, all of which allow the prey to be
completely chewed. The gastrointestinal tract itself is simple and reflects a nutritious
source of food and a sufficient supply of water to be consumed during feeding. The
platypus do not have stomach.
Circulatory System: The platypus has a four-chamber heart with a closed circulatory
system. The systemic aorta comes from the left 4th arterial arch. Large heart veins flow
directly into the right atrium. Coronary veins not found in other mammals also flow directly
into the right atrium. Pelvic rete mirabile available
Respiratory System: The lungs of the duck-biled platypus are alveolar, with a tree-like
ifurcation system typical of mammalian intrapulmonary
onchi, with one lobe on the
left and two lobes on the right. The diaphragm is present and functions during
