· ISO 17025 are the standards that need to be in compliance for the laboratories. Specifically it is for competency in testing and cali
ation laboratories. They indicate both the general and process requirements of the laboratory to remain competent and for effective cali
ation.
· Discussion of relevance of Deming principles
· The first principle is to create constancy of the purpose and for improving the products and the services accordingly. – ISO 17025 is proposed for improving the efficacy of the laboratories in cali
ation and improving the same continuously and so is included with the first principle.
· The second principle is about changing the philosophy to new, mean improving. ISO standard included the perspective towards quality through a novel and comprehensive approach.
· The third principle indicates to stop reliance on inspection alone, (rather need to consider the total system change for the better). ISO standard proposed
· The fourth Principle is to focus not just on price ratter total quality management should be the priority. Further working for integration of the single supplier will contribute towards long term relationship and better outcomes. ISO 17025 subcontracting clauses included focus on the quality aspects.
· Fifth principle is emphasizes the need for constant and continuous improvement. Section 4.1 of ISO17025 focuses on continuous improvement of the origination or the laboratory.
· Sixth principle includes training on the job. Clause 4.1 of the ISO17025 speaks about the training and competency development of the staff.
· Seventh principle is about adopting the institute leadership for the job case. Section 4.2 of ISO 17025 speaks about the leadership and management perspective change towards betterment including QMS.
· Eighth Principle is about driving out fear by encouraging effective and two way communications. Clause 4.2 and 4.3 speaks about the type of communication systems necessary in the organization for effective communication.
· Ninth principle is about co-ordination and integration of the staff. Clause 4 overall works for achieving the integration of the staff.
· Tenth principle calls for a system change rather just asking the workforce to move for better quality and zero defects through slogans. The very purpose of the ISO standards in entirety is to move for a change for betterment
· Eleventh principle is to eliminate the numerical quotas for work; this is about stop thinking about the quantitative quotas for the workers rather need to be focus on quality. Clause 8 indicates the type of management necessary; this includes focus on the quality aspects.
· Twelth principle is to remove the rating scales and metrics, rather the focus need to be on the motivation of the employees. Clause 8 speaks about the type of performance needs
