Dr. DoRight has recently been hired as the President of the “Universal Human Care Hospital”, where he oversees all departments with over 5,000 employees and over 20,000 patients at the medical facility. He has been provided with a broad set of duties and oversight of numerous departments, including business development, customer services, human resources, legal, patient advocacy, to name a few. He has managers in each department that he supervises and who work with him to address the needs of the various internal and external stakeholders of the hospital. Dr. DoRight discovers that some patients within the hospital have been dying as a result of a variety of illegal procedures by doctors and nurses, and negligent supervision and oversight on their part. This was brought to his attention in a few meetings and he told his Regional Director Compliance Manager and Executive Committee in January 2009. He was told by them that the matter would be investigated and they would report any findings to him as soon as possible. After two (2) years, there have been no results from the investigation and some patients are still passing away due to the negligent activities. He also answers to a board of trustees and interfaces with numerous community organizations and corporations who have various reasons for doing business with the hospital. Introduction:
Dr DoRight has been appointed as a President in a reputed “Universal Human Care
Hospital”, he is given responsibility to handle almost every department of the center and
supervise heads and managers of each specified department. But in any Medical center the main
concern is the health of your patients, ultimately that decides the credibility of your Hospital
care. When Dr DoRight found about the wrong happenings in his Hospital, he was concerned
and wanted to find out the exact reasons behind the dying rate of his patients. He thought either it
could be illegal activities by Doctors and nurses or because of negligent behavior of his
subordinates. He has also informed to his Regional Compliance manager and to a committee and
they responded that investigations would be done to find out the exact reason behind these
incidents.
Internal and External Stakeholders:
Stakeholders are the people who are directly or indirectly connected with your
organization, they do have some interest if not much in the objectives of your firm. Here Dr
DoRight handles many people who are inside or outside the organization and they have relation
with the Medical center. Let us first talk about the stakeholders who are inside the firm and have
a direct impact on the working of Hospital. First and very important people are the employees of
the hospital that includes Staff Members, Doctors and the members of Board of Directors, also
People who are directly linked with the hospital like Managers (Regional Managers), Executive
committee and Trustee members. They have direct connection or in better words have direct
impact on the Hospital. If any good or bad result comes out of any process then these are the
ones who would be blamed or rewarded. Next come to the people who are indirectly connected
with the firm and they do have indirect impact on the Hospital. These are refe
ed as external
stake holders that included Patients, Government and External Doctors who are asked to handle
the process in specific cases. Suppliers of Medicines and other instruments are also external
stakeholders because they provide aids required doing the medication of Patients and hence they
do have an indirect impact.
Conflict of Interest:
Conflict of Interest can occur when people’s and organization’s capacity to fulfill their
duties to those for whom it seems threat of compromise and interference because of some
external interests. You cannot decide just on the basis of what is at stake in conflicts of interest
ather on behalf of those who are getting affected by those conflicts of interests. Here Internal
stakeholders are the owners of the Hospital and trustees and other people and also Doctors and
nurses if he complains against Doctors regarding the illegal activities being practiced by them or
even if they are negligent towards their duties then it is affecting the business of the Hospital and
also it takes resources and efforts to reestablish all those roles and duties. And on the other hand
Patients are putting their lives in the hands of those unethical Doctors and there is no guarantee
that they will be safe.
The main aim of any person when he comes to the hospital is to be get cured and at the
same time if the people who are serving them are not taking the duties seriously then it is
impacting the life. This is a very critical issue. The president is busy in receiving awards but he is
not putting an extra effort to actually deserve those...
