Introduction
In the modern era, the sustainability related issues are rising at a faster pace. Overall such issues have adverse impact on the environment and the su
oundings that needs to be managed in the most effective manner (Markman, et al. 2016). Further, the global sustainability issue can be of any type like global poverty, overpopulation, peak oil, declining fishing stocks, wastage etc. The key challenges present can be regarded as a wicked problem where these type of problems are mainly very complex in nature and in turn they are very difficult to be defined also. In short, very effective solutions are required for dealing with the wicked problems as they adversely affect the economic situation of a particular nation. The issue is mainly important as the overall rise in the wastage level can surely lead to increase in the environmental burden and vice versa. Mainly it is a sustainability issue as the negative impact on environment is rising at a faster pace due to rising waste within Australia.
Considering the present research one of the wicked problem that has been selected is rising wastage where China has recently banned recycling wastage of Australia. This is the key challenge that has been faced by Australia and it has acted in the form of large crisis. Further, the report highlights how this problem is wicked and in turn the different types of system thinking approach that is required to manage this solution properly. So, these areas have been covered in the study.

Wicked problems are mainly complex in nature and in turn identifying any possible solution to the wicked problems is not an easy task. Further, the key issue is regarding China’s ban on recycling waste of Australia and in turn it has lead to the development of waste crisis (Whigham, 2019). The real ban is in relation with import restrictions that are imposed by China under the National Sword program. This action has been mainly taken by China so as to manage the overall amount of Contaminated materials that are entering into the country. Restrictions on Australia are in the form of paper and plastics whose percentage is around 0.5%.
In order to understand about this wicked problem the key 5 characteristics of the problem are as follows:
One of the first attribute of wicked problem is that there is no definitive formulation of a wicked problem. It has been found that it can be done with the help of ordinary problem only. Therefore, in this case the ordinary challenge is China’s ban on recycling of Australia’s waste and this is the key challenge that is faced by Australia. It has been found that the nation like Australia has high dependency on China in terms of waste management (Spragg, 2018). Moreover, the recycling obtained from business and households is mainly recycled and in turn Australia has exported 3.5% to China.
The second attribute of wicked problem is that solutions to the wicked problem are mainly not true or false but they can better or worse also. The main solution to the problem faced by Australia is linked with reducing the dependency level on China in relation with recycling waste. It has been mainly found that the recycling market of Australia is very limited for the household recyclables such as glass, plastics and paper (Khan, et al. 2016).
The third main attribute is every type of effort applied to change the problematic situation affects the problem in a different way. In the present case, if Australia will apply efforts on recycling the waste within its nation it will assist a lot in reducing the level of dependency on the Chinese market. In short, this solution will reduce the level of exports to China.
