Part 1: Economic impact along with comparison
The production of Iron Ore forms 54% of the state's total resource production. About 800 million tons of iron ore is produced in Australia and it's worth is $78.2 billion. This industry employs about 60,000 employees directly. In this way the iron ore production in Australia is of great significance from an economic point of view. The economic impact of iron ore production on countries like Australia, India, China, America and Brazil is extremely significant. On comparing the economic impact of iron ore production on Australia as well as other developed and developing countries, it indicates an uniform impact as Iron ore is known as an important resource for infrastructural development. The economy of China, which is the largest producer, consumer and exporter of iron ore, is greatly affected by the production of Iron Ore and has seen tremendous growth in demand and production of Iron ore in the past 5 years. The same holds good for the economy of Australia as well.
Part 2: Environment impact - comparing Australia and China policies
The environmental impact of Iron Ore production in Australia as well as other countries is adverse as it results in soil erosion, loss of biodiversity, contamination of soil, groundwater, and surface water by the chemicals emitted from mining processes. These effects are seen throughout the world where mining takes place. This impacts the environment in the long run. A number of laws and legislations have been passed to protect the environment and ensure that air, water and other resources are not polluted. A body called “Environmental Protection Agency” (EPA) was formed in order to control environmental pollution and it has achieved significant success. These elements help develop a holistic approach towards managing the environment quality in a country and protect it from damage. On the other hand, in case of China, due to massive u
anization and infrastructural development, there has not been cu
ing of adverse environmental impact of iron ore mining (Yu Gan, W. Michael Griffin, 2018). This could lead to several problems in the long run. The study by Yu Gan, W. Michael Griffin, 2018 presents multiple estimates for the GHG emissions from iron ore mining and processing in China. The results state that " Approaches I and II result in mean emissions estimates for open pit mining of 39 and 35 kg CO2e/tonne of ore, respectively"....
