In the Social Science article, Under the influence of our older
other and sister: The
association between sibling gender configuration and STEM degrees, by Roujman
Shahbazianab, a study was conducted to experiment with families housing two siblings.
The meaning of the experiment was to find out how gender segregation from society
and family would influence siblings and their future careers in STEM. While using some
of the most complicated equations I've ever seen (STEMi=α+β1 (older sibling STEMi) +
β(all controlesi)+εi) in addition to the Swedish population data and education
egistration documents, the researchers came up with the vital outcome which was
that the second-born sibling in the family is more likely to pursue a STEM career if thei
older sibling has a background in STEM than compared to an older sibling with a
different educational experience or educational characteristics (Shahbazian 2021).
Along with that conclusion, they also finalized this: "Girls are more likely to choose a
STEM field if they have an older sister who has attended a STEM program than if they
have an older
other in a similar program" (Shahbazian XXXXXXXXXXGiven that the STEM
program is male-dominated, this conclusion implies the importance of "same-sex role
models for young girls contemplating gender-atypical educational choices"
(Shahbazian 2021).
When I found this article, I was fascinated by the study of older sibling influence in
Sweden. I chose this article because I myself am a big sister; I have two younger sisters.
I like to think that I influence my sisters to do the right thing along with many othe
activities. I consider influence from an older sibling to be highly appreciated and
important. Younger siblings will look to their older siblings as a stepping stone for what
they should do and how they should act until they find their own personalities. When
my family moved to Washington, I insisted that my sisters should do a swim team, and
now it's their favorite sport, and they like to compete. Older siblings are the primary
influence for their younger siblings, so when I read about an experiment conducted in
Sweden about sibling influence, I couldn't turn down a chance to read about it.

I agree to you and can relate with you on similar grounds as well. A family is an institution, which helps in enhanced learning through observation and encourages socialization. We tend to adopt traits by observing our parents and siblings. An older sibling is always protective about their younger siblings and leads them by guiding in various areas. Younger one is also dependent on them for the development of emotions,...
