What are the dangers of describing underperformance as a ‘bad attitude’?
Underperformance and bad attitude these are two different things. It should not be intermixed, for example if an employee is late for work, blame others, low in productivity, and negative attitude then this is the issue of misconduct or bad attitude but not at all considered as performance issue. Performance is something which is not in employees hand but behavior is.
Dangers are: an employee can feel less motivated and do not want to come office and it can increase absenteeism, it will change their positive behavior to negative. (Lewis, n.d.)
What should you do when you believe an employee has the ‘wrong’ attitude?
