hiza. There is evidence of existence of various degress of specificities between ectomyco
hizal fungi and host plant. The reasons for host specificity are mentioned below:
a. There is a process of molecular recognition before colonization of root by the hyphae of fungi. This molecular interaction is very specific.
. For ectomyco
hizal association of fungi and plants, they should be compatible to each other and this compatibility is recognized between the root of the plant and fungus by molecular signalling with the help of genetic information of plants as well as fungus.
c. There is less host specificity in VAM Endomyco
hizae because they can get associated with large variety of plants.
