Ms. Maya Basudde indeed had a hard time during her pregnancy. One, because she suffered from internal complications (PCOS and endometriosis) and her family doctor did not do proper screening or evaluation to make sure that pregnancy will be safe and second, she did not get proper refe
al for OB gyn from her family doctor that she was waiting for. Because of this she had to change her doctors multiple times and none of them were supportive towards her fears regarding pregnancy and delivery. On top of that she had to struggle with the administrative work to get her papers fixed every time she met a doctor. Also, the doctors were not sensitive towards her values and condition as they repeatedly asked her questions regarding substance abuse and absence of her husband. And all this happened in the presence of midwives as well. Since Ms. Basudde’s husband was not with her, the doctors assumed and questioned her if the father was abusive.
