Question
Using the Orb model as a model for interpretive reproduction interpret and distinguish how peer cultures are created within the web and reaches across stages.
With the information provided below, trace through TWO (2) possible institutional fields of education and family, across the 4 distinct spirals of peer cultures created at preschool-age, preadolescence, adolescence and adulthood to address the questions.
‘A’ was an only child born into a working class family, while ‘B’ was the second child of four siblings, born into a wealthy family.
The overall responses must show substantial understanding of children’s varied experiences in childhood in interpretive reproduction, and provide evidence of research on how these could possibly affect them. You may make use of diagrams and other pictorial representations to propose your ideas and explanations.
(a) For the field of education, you are to:
i. Distinguish and discuss the interpretive reproduction within these experiences.
20 marks
ii. Examine and describe possible peer culture experiences across the FOUR (4) distinct spirals created at preschool-age, preadolescence, adolescence and adulthood.
16 marks
(b) For the field of family, you are to:
i. Distinguish and discuss the interpretive reproduction within these experiences.
20 marks
ii. Examine and describe possible peer culture experiences across the FOUR (4) distinct spirals created at preschool-age, preadolescence, adolescence and adulthood.
16 marks
(c) Compare and contrast the possible life scenarios of ‘A’ and ‘B’ and show how the respective peer cultural experiences may remain embedded in their individual life histories and influence their individual experiences. Contrasts and comparisons must illustrate how the children’s peer cultures are collectively ‘spun’ from knowledge and institutions of adult society through the inclusion of FOUR (4) ideas and processes.

(d) Include at least TWO (2) appropriate references to support your arguments.

INTERPRETIVE REPRODUCTION 3
Introduction
ORB model is used to graphically represent the interpretive reproduction. As per this
model there are four major cultural stages in the life of any individual. These four distinct
cultures are, preschool, pre adolescent, adolescent and adult. These cultures are not fixed for any
kid; these culture values may vary from kid to kid. The first kid may have different values of
these dimensions while the third kid may have different values. As presented in the case, the
child A was the only child in the family. Whereas, the child B was the second child of four
siblings. There are high chances that the up
inging of both these Childs (A and B) would be
different.
Part a (For the field of education)
Part a (i)
The interpretive reproduction is defined as the way kids create their own culture. These
cultures are formed by factors such as daily routine things, concerns, values and artifacts. In the
filed of education Child A and Child B would have different exposure to these factors. For child
A the interpretive reproduction would be focused around him or her only. Child A is the only
child in the family therefore the family would also be more concerned about the child. There are
high chances that his education would be better as compared to child B. Child A would get all
the facilities of the modern education system. Both the child would collectively participate in the
society. It may be possible that the cultural dimension may differ for them. For both these kids
socialization would be a process of appropriation, reinvention and reproduction.
