The creation of safe spaces requires cultural self-awareness, cultural intelligence and cultural 
capability. So this final assignment draws together all the learning from the unit in a report 
about safe spaces. They are fundamental to operating effectively in the workplace, 
community and the university. Yet many spaces are not that safe for the people who use 
them. How is it possible to create safe spaces for people? 
 
Using an excerpt from a film or video of people interacting within a 
space, analyse the various aspects of the scenario including the 
physical location and interactions between actors to highlight your 
understanding of safe spaces. Demonstrate your growing cultural 
capabilities by writing a report that analyses safe or unsafe spaces 
as depicted in your chosen clip. 
You need to write an academic report using formal language to: 
• analyse the chosen filmed scenario for safe or unsafe 
spaces  
• demonstrate your understanding of the characteristics of 
culturally safe or unsafe spaces by discussing those 
identified in the film in relation to the research literature,

1. Choose a scenario  
Choose a scene (about 5-10 minutes in length) from a TV 
program, video or movie that focuses on a conflict situation in a

Introduction 
The report will provide the reader a brief insight on the safe space environment as to how an 
environment is clearly threatened by unsafe activities as the example will be taken from the 
mockumentary series of Angry Boys which will denote as to how an individual can ignore cultural 
intelligence which can result in severe consequences and produce a bad impact on the society and 
even on the young teenagers because they are the only people who get a sudden influence of 
disgusting events in the society (McCarthy, 2006). Moreover, recommendations are also given as to 
how the safe space can be created for the benefit of the society. 
Background  
The concept of cultural safety incorporates actions that identify and recognise the cultural 
identity of different individuals so that the needs, rights and expectations can be met safely. 
On the other hand, safe space is confined within a culture where every individual is allowed 
to get involved in a normal setting (Gayle, 2013). For instance, it develops an  atmosphere 
that lets every member of the society to get involved accordingly. Therefore, it is very much 
necessary to develop a safe and secure place in the society for the benefit of the individuals 
that reside there. 
Scope  
The report will focus on the video of series named as Angry Boys. It exhibited that the 
Shwayne, a young rapper, tried to damage the safe environment while using illegitimate 
language usually considered as profane in his song lyrics and even showed aggressiveness in 
his music video. This was not suitable for the environment and for teenagers as well.
