Task Summary
This task will present a set of data of revenue-related content. Students will be required to analyse
and evaluate the content and offer recommendations. The data set might cover any topic areas
covered in the lectures and tutorials of the previous weeks and any readings given in the previous
topics. Students will be required to write a 1,500-word report.
Task Instructions
Please refer to the data set handout provided to prepare your Revenue Management Scenario
Evaluation.
When analysing and evaluating the data set, ensure to show how the data is positive, negative o
with no impact to the scenario hotel.
You must also provide recommendations for the scenario hotel on how to improve the data set
provided, into generating further revenues. Refer to your handout to know how many
ecommendations are necessary and for which aspects of the data set.
The recommended structure of the report is as follow:
· Introduction – introduce the context, key problem identified and report plan.
· Analysis – describe and explain the data set and its main positive/negative issues.
· Evaluation – defend your own perspective on the scenario hotel’s performance.
· Recommendations – use the SMART acronym to ensure actionable recommendations.
· Conclusion – summarise the scenario, key problem identified and key recommendation.
· References
· Appendices – to show calculations.
· Referencing
You must refer to a minimum of 8 academic articles, plus others as required, in order to show
competency in the assessment. Blogs and other unverifiable sources will not count as references. It
is essential that you use appropriate APA style for citing and referencing research.
Data Set
Consider you are the revenue manager for The OVAL hotel located in Adelaide, South Australia. The past year and a half have certainly been difficult, to say to least, for the overall industry. There seem to be some rebound, especially from domestic tourism, but the continuous lockdowns are wearing down both hotels and hotel demand. Your general manager has provided you with a trend report from STR and has asked you to analyse and evaluate the past 5 years for your city’s performance, focusing notably on the impact of COVID‐19 on the overall industry performance in the city in the last 18 months (March 2020 onwards). You also have access to the below data:
Furthermore, you have to provide at least two (2) recommendations, based on STR data, to
improve your hotel revenue generation.
Instructions:
1. You must calculate missing figures highlighted in yellow in the table above, to two
decimal points. Calculations that are not accurately rounded will not receive full
marks. Add the table in your report. You may show your calculations in an appendix.
2. Analyse and evaluate your city’s overall performance for the past five years using the
STR Trend report.
· Focus on occupancy, ADR, RevPAR and revenue as performance measures.
· Provide a separate paragraph on the past year and a half (from March 2020 to now).
· Propose two (2) revenue management recommendations for your hotel.
· These must be grounded in your analysis and evaluation, and use data as support, explaining why the hotel should implement them.
· These could be linked to segmentation, pricing, inventory management, product definition and development, competitor benchmarking, distribution management, etc.
Remember:
· When writing your recommendations, use the SMART acronym and make sure that
they are specific. Broad or generic recommendations will be dismissed by you
manager as they would not be applicable.
· Inventory management relate to room inventory, not F&B inventory. They include
length‐of‐stay controls and restrictions, cancellations policies, credit card and deposit,
ove
ooking and many others. Be original and creative in your application of these controls.

Introduction:
The report has been prepared with an objective of detailed analysis of Oval hotel performance over the past 9 months and trend analysis of Adelaide city over past 5 years. Due to the global pandemic of COVID 19, the entire hospitality industry is struggling and has shown negative performance in the years 2020 and 2021 as compared to earlier years (Vince Baudille, 2021). Further, we have also analyzed the performance in terms of occupancy percentage, ADR, RevPAR, and room revenue, changes in terms of percentage by year and measures which are the most important factors. Further, we have also recommended revenue management to improve its financial performance in the upcoming period. The hotel is having various positive as well as negative aspects which have also been discussed in detail in the report.
Detailed analysis of the dataset and positive/negative impact:
The RevPAR, ADR, and occupancy percentage play an important role in the hotel industry, and the higher the percentage, the higher will be the revenue (Gössling S., Scott D., Hall C.M., 2020). In the case, the city of Adelaide the revenue data has shown mix kind of performance over the past 5 years but during the last 18 months i.e. from March 2020 onwards the performance is volatile due to global pandemic which has been discussed separately.
The average occupancy % in the city of Adelaide was 73.7% in the year 2015 whereas it was 76.8% and 77.7% in the year 2017 and 2018 respectively which shows that the occupancy percentage in each year has been increased by a slight margin over the period of 4 years. Further, it has been analyzed that the occupancy percentage is higher in October and November in 4 years whereas the occupancy percentage is lower in June, July, and August which shows that generally, the demand is higher in Oct and Nov and demand is lower in June, July and August over 4 years. The average daily revenue of the entity was $143.19 in January 2015 which reached $176.36 on Feb 15 and $128.38 in June 2015 which shows that the revenue has been decreased significantly in the year June month as compared to Jan 2015 due to lower demand and accordingly the occupancy percentage was also declined from 71.9% to 63.5%.
The RevPAR has also shown the same trend in line with the changes in occupancy percentage and ADR.
