Chromatography is a technique which is used to separate and analyse complex mixtures. The first experiment was done using Thin Chromatography (TLC) for identification of analgesics and precoated TLC plates are used. The method used to apply the sample to be analysed on the chromatoplates is called spotting. The samples which are to be analysed are dissolverd in a suitable solvent to get its clear solution and the solvent should be volatile. Before the application of sample on the TLC plate, a base line is marked at the height of 1cm from the lower end of the plate and dots are marked on this line at about 1 cm apart. Then, aspirin, acetaminophine caffeine and sample solutions are applied on the plates at their respective positions (dots).
