Statement of the Problem
Woolworths and Coles are two biggest names in the retail industry in Australia. They are fierce competitors and are often known to indulge in price wars. Such aggressive pricing strategy and deep discounts play a detrimental role in maintaining their duopoly in the market and keeping customer share intact. However, such deep-discount wars wreak havoc for local farmers and producers. Such a strategy is not very sustainable for them as the farmers find themselves in a precarious situation, the costs incurred by them does not go down but due to such fierce price battles, they are reluctantly compelled to sell their hard earned harvest for meagre costs (Mitchelson , 2018). Further, in the light of information gathered, it is stated that Queensland farmers are slowly becoming disinterested in keeping their business running as they do not see any substantial monetary and financial benefits. Often, such farmers are pressurised into selling their milk at a cost lesser than $1, such low prices are making many small businessmen exit the industry (Conway-Dodd, 2016).  It is imperative to note that such paradigm shift of changing farmer’s and producers’ economic preference will have considerable impact on other spheres of economy.
