Literature Review
Suicide is a major public and social health problem in and around the globe. Since the
yearly’s of1990, suicide issue has become the topic of news more often and common than
even motor vehicle accidents as a cause of death. Even with the statistics is can be seen that
the suicide rate among adolescent males and young adult has been snowballing gradually for
the past 25 years. If to go by age, then among 15 to 19-years old people it is seen as now the
foremost cause of death. As a result of these trends the median age of suicide victims has
een gradually declining since 1971.
In connection to this numbers the suicides rates and their numbers are based on the
completed suicides that mean attempted suicides are not counted on this. The figure definitely
is not able to capture the real risk of behaviours (suicidal), for instance, if exposure is
provided to peers on suicidal attempts might get younger population at risk of suicidal
ehaviour. Taken together, young people can be expected to be the group at highest risk of
suicide in the future. (Ho, et al., 2000).

Facts and figures
Suicide is a world-wide negative issue which is affecting several different areas of the
world.
The rate of suicide around the world is about a million people in a year, and if to go
y numbers it is like fifteen per 100k people as per the WHO, 2010. This is an alarming stage
to notice such mishaps which are extending to this high rate like every person within the age
group of 15 to 19 year olds are at a greater risk of committing suicide in a third of all
countries. As per the report of the WHO, 2009, suicide has become the second most leading
cause of mortality for the mentioned age group globally.

When we do the comparison of the trends and rates if youth suicide between the two
different parts of the world, say Western and Eastern parts of the world, there are differences
in the tendencies, the epidemiology of suicide has been identified. The very first one among
those is that in areas of Asia Suicide has been found as the major and leading cause of death
whereas in the western countries it has taken the place third and fourth as per the WHO,
2010. This could be because of more use of lethal methods of attempting suicide in Asian
countries. (Liu, Chen, Cheung, & Yip, 2009). Also, these methods are more lethal such as
poisoning and jumping, poisons could be charcoal, pesticides. And contrary to this in western
countries the common means of attempting suicides are firearms.
