Part 1 – Key Concepts
Moksha is linked to the central concept. The other associated aspects to the term which define it
with the goals - dharma, artha and kama (Zalatimo, O., Ranasinghe, M., Ha
augh, R. E., &
Iantosca, M.; Yousaf, A., Singh, M., & Gupta, A, 2014; Martin, C. C., & Keyes, C. L., 2015;
Chapter 14). All the three aspects focus on the different state of mind
Depression is an illness that strikes humans and is known to affect us in various ways. It is
curable to a greater extent and the normal life and functioning capabilities of a person get
affected with depression (Boockvar, K., 2014; Sirois, F. M., & Wood, A. M., 2017; Guo, N.,
Bindt, C., Te Bonle, M., Appiah-Poku, J., Hinz, R., Barthel, D., & Schlüter, L. , 2013; Chapter
12)
Mourning is associated to natural psychological behavior which is associated with loss of some
near and dear in the family, friend circle or otherwise. The loss is large enough for the person
who has to handle (Villacieros, M., Se
ano, I., Bermejo, J. C., & Magaña, M., 2014; Shing, E.
Z., Jayawickreme, E., & Waugh, C. E.; Chapter 3).
Attachment theory refers to the psychological model that is determined to impact the person with
the associated interpersonal relationships that exist amongst humans (Pietromonaco, P. R.,
Uchino, B., & Dunkel Schetter, C., 2013; Chapter 8)
Terminal sedation is a medication that is given to the patients who are undergoing treatment and
are terminally ill with no hopes for them to get back to normal course (Chapter 6; Willis, D.,
Gannon, C., Harlow, T., Baker, I., & George, R., 2014).
Elder care refers to the care for the people who are above the age limit of 65-70 plus. These
people need lot of attention and care as they are helpless to help their own selves (Chapter 5;
Chari, A. V., Engberg, J., Ray, K. N., & Mehrotra, A., 2015)
Ancestor Worship is practiced in many part of world wherein the superstition over rules the
thinking for men and women. The ancestors of the family are considered Godly and are
worshipped (Chapter 3; Yang, F., 2016; Seiwert, H., 2016).
Magical thinking is considered to be a term that is associated with psychology and denotes
attribution to the existing causal relationships which occur between the various actions and the
events (Chapter 2; Young, M. J., Mo
is, M. W., & Scherwin, V. M., 2013).
Part – 2 - Essay
With the advancement pertaining to pain management, there are many seriously ill patients along
with the number increasing for terminally ill patients too. They are given the comfortable final
days of illness in their last few days. Suffering getting to the extreme level is difficult to handle
and there is when terminal sedation is the only choice (Flores, P. J., & Porges, S. W.; 2017;
Maxwell, J. A., Spielmann, S. S., Joel, S., & MacDonald, G.; Shaver, P. R., Mikulincer, M.,
Gross, J. T., Stern, J. A., & Cassidy, J. A., 2016). The discomfort for patients is certainly reduced
and this seems to be the only quality and the effective manner in which the moderate pain can
ease the real pain and suffering from terminally ill patients (Douglas, C. D., Ke
idge, I. H., &
Ankeny, R. A., 2013; Roelands, M., Deliens, L., & Cohen, J., 2013).
There are patients who do not even respond to the costly medicines and the medication seems
unaffordable considering the insurance unable to bear. With the copay amount to be paid, the
egular medication and treatment turns out to be really costly. The physicians refer to it as double
effect for the pain medication (Papavasiliou, E. S., Brearley, S. G., Seymour, J. E., Brown, J.,
Payne, S. A., & IMPACT, E., 2013; Guo, N., Bindt, C., Te Bonle, M., Appiah-Poku, J., Hinz, R.,
Barthel, D., ... & Schlüter, L., 2013).
With the advancement in medicine the option of terminal sedation available to terminally ill
patients is of great help. Rather than finally dying with all the suffering and pain which cannot be
managed and controlled, the alternative is a better one (Maeda, I., Morita, T., Yamaguchi, T.,
Inoue, S., Ikenaga, M., Matsumoto, Y., ... & Tatara, R., 2016; Quill, T. E., Back, A. L., & Block,
S. D., 2016). The double effect as termed by the physicians and well termed in medical journals
as being the sedative drug that works with the purpose of relieving pain and suffering in a patient
who is anyways dying.
The medication which is linked to work in this manner leads to respiratory sedation and it
hastens a patient’s death (Maeda, I., Morita, T., Yamaguchi, T., Inoue, S., Ikenaga, M.,
Matsumoto, Y., ... & Tatara, R., 2016; Quill, T. E., Back, A. L., & Block, S. D., 2016). While the
concept can be discomforting and often thought to be not ethical, the death attributed with the
disease and the complications associated with the disease. The death is natural in case of the
many who are destined to have a natural death (Maeda, I., Morita, T., Yamaguchi, T., Inoue, S.,
Ikenaga, M., Matsumoto, Y., ... & Tatara, R., 2016; Quill, T. E., Back, A. L., & Block, S. D.,
2016).
For the patients terminally ill, the process which makes them unconscious and finally get
elieved from life is a medication that seems to be the most effective from them and makes them
not suffer with the undergoing pain otherwise (Maeda, I., Morita, T., Yamaguchi, T., Inoue, S.,
Ikenaga, M., Matsumoto, Y., ... & Tatara, R., 2016; Quill, T. E., Back, A. L., & Block,...
