Introduction
Soviet Union, was a one party federal socialist state in Eurasia, with Moscow being its capital. It had evolved from the October revolution in 1917, when Lenin had overthrown the Provisional Government. The Russian Soviet Republic had been established with the beginning of a civil war followed by rebel from the peasants in the form of Red Terror and War Communism. Following the death of Lenin, Stalin came to power and suppressed political opposition. It is this rule of the Communists that though rapid industrialization led to economic growth, the forced collectivization was not liked by the people, leading to a revolt (Gregory, Paul R, 2004). 
History and events
The anti - aggression agreement signed with the Nazi led to a big disaster as the Germans invaded the Soviet Union and led to a very intense war. Only in 1945, Soviet Union was able to win the World War II against Berlin. The Cold war in 1947, due to the dominance of the Soviet Union in Europe were all factors that led to fear and hatred among the people. Then slowly under the leadership of Nikita Khrushchev, progress, reformations and industrialization began (Phillips, Steve, 2000).
