Documented Details of the Project.
Setting Precise Expectations.
Choosing Right Team and Proper Systems.
Milestones Definition.
Establishing Clear Communication.
Management of Project Risks.
Scope Creep Avoidance.
Project Evaluation Post Completion.
Strategy
It involves understanding stakeholders buy-in and expectations. Project scope should be clearly defined including roles and responsibilities. Creating a detailed plan based on defined goals and criteria for success measurement. Creation of timeline on the basis of deliverables dates.
Clear roles and responsibilities definition helps managing accountability. Once expectations are set, everyone knows their due deliverables and timelines including awareness about how their work contributes to the project as a whole and keeping the stakeholders informed.
A plan with clear expectations makes task assignment easier. Project manager can create a team by utilising right skills, talent and personalities for the project. Skill sets and project requirements should align. Team should be proper size i.e. neither too less nor too many people should be part of a team. Strategy (Contd..)
Definition of key milestones for the complete lifecycle of the project by including four main phases: initiation, planning, execution, and closure. Team performance can be assessed by examining deliverables post each phase. The process also warns about possible problems that may arise during each phase.
Communication is an important part of any project. Creating a communication plan featuring the team frequency of communication with stakeholders, status meetings, etc. Project managers, responsible to create status reports, need to plan the frequency based on RACI (Responsible, Accountable, Consult, Inform) matrix.
A project involves many risks and their awareness beforehand helps to manage and mitigate them. Project managers are better prepared with contingency plans in place to take preventive action, or even step in with co
ective measures.
Strategy (Contd..)
Project Manager needs to keep the project on track by keeping a check on changes. Changes should not affect deadlines and deliverables. If changes are not revised accordingly scope creep can happen.
Project review is a valuable practice as it provides future utilizable information. This includes areas of improvement, considering planned return on investment in comparison to the actual ROI. Project managers can assess what went right, what went wrong, and how to make adjustments next time and develop best practices for future.
There are 10 Effective leadership skill that Project Manager should possess.
Effective communication skills - Connecting with people at all levels is a necessity for a project manager, so he must have the qualities of a good communicator. This helps in conveying project goals, tasks, responsibilities, expectation and feedback.
Strong motivational skills - To attain maximum performance from the team to achieve the individual and project goals, project manager needs to have strong motivational skills.
Good decision maker - There are many decisions that need to be taken for achieving...
