Task 1
The small business that has been set up is food service business in terms of its nature of business. The company has planned to sell Baozi, which is a Chinese Street food, in London, UK. The small business will be owned by five founding members, each contributing £1000 each, making a total of £5000. The earned profit or losses will be divided among the members of the team equally and each member has to remain in the company for at least 2 years. As for the business planning, firstly, I as the manager of the team would plan the budget allocation for marketing, asset purchase and production. Then with mutual discussion and debate with the members of the team, I will formulate the strategies and make every member understand the roles that each have to play. It is worth the mention that being a small taskforce, everyone’s role would be flexible and additional responsibilities have to be taken. Lastly, I would set goals for profit targets at the end of the year, which will be realistic and based on market uncertainties.
As I determine the budget as the manager for each action that would be conducted within the new business set-up, there will be a systematic approach and awareness of organisational resources, reducing the chances of over budgeting, thereby, proving its relevance. Taking cue from Jha et al. (2018), who stated that determining the strategies with team consultation at start-ups reduce the power struggle, which I have planned to do in our start-up, retaining relevance. Lastly, setting up of realistic profit earning or financial statement in a realistic and minimal manner, would help the founding members get confident and aware about the potential risks, becoming a source of motivation.
The start-up will have a flat organisational structure, allowing all five employees cum founding members to operate independently on parallel organisational levels. I as the manger will keep a close watch on organisational activities along with taking care of the raw material supplies. On the other hand, two of the members of the team will manage the food preparation and inventory, while the remaining two members will be engaged in marketing and accounting, respectively and would only update the details. All the decision and strategies will be pre-determined. The flat structure of the start-up, as supported by Martinez-Costa et al. (2018), would be effective for low employee counts, as each employee is given equal power and hence creating a sense of responsibility.
Task 2
It is the organisational culture of a business company, which creates the attitude of cooperating, complementation and coordination amongst the members of the group. As mentioned by Lee et al. (2019), the organisational culture, as per the comprehension of Edgar Schein impacts the effectiveness of business on three levels, while the first level mentions visible traits of organisational culture, the following two levels embeds organisational culture in the element of success. It is seen that the organisational culture generates from the repetitive actions within an organisational frame, which uses the culture of work at its core. The culture of a market is incorporated while forming organisational aims and objectives, which on the other hand, contributes in the formation of organisational culture and business success. As stated by Silva et al. (2018), organisational culture generates a sense of security among the taskforce as it makes the organisation cater success, and as the taskforce realise the significance of organisational culture, they assess the organisational culture in depth finding out the use of culture.
