Part 1: Linguistic Diversity/Language
In the modern era of globalization, businesses and education are going global due to a
ange of international as well as domestic factors. Not only the large countries, but the small
ones, as well, attract businesses due to the urge of earning more profits and to remain successful
in the tough competitive market. However, different areas of diversity affect global business
practices and generate hurdles, and one such area, which is of great strategic importance, is
linguistic diversity or multilingualism. Linguistic diversity or language is an extraordinarily
diverse field, which signifies that how several amount of living languages function in the world
cu
ently (Kjær & Adamo, 2011).
Linguistic diversity exists not only at international, but at the national level also, as there
are courtiers where more than one or two languages are used for day to day communication by
people, like in India or in Canada. The role of language is crucial not only in day to day
communication, or in ensuring cultural diversity, but also in reinforcing cooperation, attaining
quality education for students, accomplishing high profits for businesses, in generating inclusive
knowledge societies, and at the same time, for safeguarding cultural heritage (Barni & Extra,
2008).
Linguistic diversity in turn generates linguistic ba
iers, which is the result of high
discrepancies in countries and cultures. In this context, this topic is of much interest as it will
ing out the different aspects of linguistic diversity and will help in researching measures to
overcome ba
iers (Smalley, 1994).
