Inequality is the thematic focus of this assignment. You can choose to write primarily on the topic of economic, political, status, ethnic, gender or racial inequality in the US, a particular country or globally. Thus far we have discussed economic inequality in American Society and Global inequality. While class based differences between the affluent, middle class and the poor are the primary issue the class has addressed to date, all should be aware that they generally intersect with race, ethnic and gender inequality, which involve stratification according to status and levels of prestige. Isolating one form of inequality without considering attending forms can lead to overly narrow and simplistic conclusions. It may also be difficult to recognize one form without relating it to others. In the interest of ensuring that you become more mindful of the distinction between forms of inequality and stratification, and conscious of the intersections between forms, I require all to choose a primary form of inequality and consider its relationship to a least one other form, which you reflect on as thematically secondary. Introduction 
The social class system has remained an important social concept for a very long time. It 
has had a great impact on societies and their formation. Philosophers and thinkers have tried to 
analyze various elements of these class and inequality system in the society. Division of labor 
has been an important part of this study. 
For a very long time and even till today, the roles of men and women are well 
distinguished. This remains prominent in some societies and not so prominent in some parts of 
the world. Men have been considered the bread earners in the patriarchal societies and the 
domestic responsibilities have been shouldered by women for a very long time. These have been 
analyzed by Marx, Weber and Durkheim in great detail (Lloyd, 1993). 
Thesis statement: Division of labor should not imply inequality but should be accepted as 
a way to make living together as a family effective and be based on efficiency. As with changing 
times inequality reduces in the modern world, gender roles are also diminishing (Philip N. 
Cohen, 2004).  
Gender and division of labor 
The classical approach to class and inequality explains that production and division of 
labor are extremely important factors that determine the nature of the society. As per Marx, 
division of labor is essential for the purpose of ensuring efficiency in production. Karl Marx 
developed some of the major concepts of modern communism and socialism. Marx argued that 
there would be social change and we would have to accept it.   
Sociology 
This stands true in present times when the lines  of gender roles are slowly diminishing as 
men and women  play an active role in all fields. He said that the caste system would be 
eliminated out of the future society and governance and a classless society would be established. 
He also linked this to industrial revolution and organizational revolution or reorganization. " To 
conceptualize gender as a structure situates gender at the same level of general social 
significance as the economy and the polity." (Risman, 2004). 
As per Durkheim, who focused his studies on the academic discipline and was involved 
in the study and interpretation of the works of Max Weber and Karl Marx, inequality is 
acceptable. Yet it may cause conflicts. It is not possible to ignore the key human differences like 
gender and power relations.  
So in case of women playing a major role at the domestic front and men playing a major 
role at earning, its acceptable as long as it helps maintain the balance required for a happy
