In the last two lectures of our first module, we'll be looking at the cultures of East and West Asia during the Early Modern period. For this unit, we'll be reading and discussing several primary sources that deal with, among other topics, marriage and the behavior of men and women within the context of marriage. These are three very different sources--a non-binding legal opinion, a Muslim recounting Hindu practices, and a law code--written for three different purposes, all within the context of patriarchal societies. Given these variances, craft an essay of 4-5 pages that answers the following question: How dothe behavioral expectations laid on both men and women compare in these societies? In other words, what seem to be the major concerns regarding marital behavior for men and women in these sources?

Introduction
	Marriage has always been a hot topic in each country, all around the world. It is a primitive idea and the ritual is going on since time immemorial. Hinduism first adopted it and later it has spread to every country, irrespective of religions, cast and small communal groups. Marriage has become an official institution in the 21st century, where two adults tend to sign documents to live with their partners for eternity. However, marriage has taken different shapes and has undergone many communal influences, ranging from one place to another. Though these days, most of the youths of the developed countries choose to not get married and does not believe in the institution, whereas some communities and countries and their laws, makes marriage obligatory and inevitable. In this assignment, light will be thrown on the different approaches on marriage in the western region of Asia, in comparison to that of the eastern region of Asia, and also men and women’s attitude and thought, towards it.
Different Approaches on Marriage
	The eastern part of Asia is also known as Pan Asia and it comprises mostly of developed, capitalists’ states. These nations practice democracy and try to provide men and women with equal opportunities and authorities. The eastern Asian nations comprises of China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand and many more. These countries are mostly inclined towards matriarchy and women tend to get to express their opinions on societal issues, freely, without any judgement. As stated by Tankard et al., these countries provide both men and women with proper education and ample job opportunities. All the citizens of these nations are more or less educated and are hence, rational. They believe in feminism and its demand for equal rights for both the male and female sexes. 
	A recent survey says that, women residing in these states earn for than their male counterparts and are generally responsible for running their family and looking after their kids. Almost 90% women residing in East Asia are educated and employed. They are also more qualified than the men, in their respective fields are. This is creating a major issue for their marriage system. The over qualified women are tending to settle less or not settle at all, due to the scarcity of eligible grooms.
