Problem Statement
Automation is the act of implementing automatic machineries instead of manual labour, into the process of manufacturing in an industry. As stated by Rubmann et al. (2015), automation is an advanced application of technology into the field of manufacturing, where it is being increasingly used to decrease the hassles of manual workforce. It has been a common practice in case of the automobile industry, because cars are becoming highly technical and well-equipped that is regularly requiring the substitution of human labour with automatic equipment or software.
Moreover, as informed by Brettel, Friederichsen, Keller and Rosenberg (2014), automation also increases manufacturing efficiency of the cars, because safety scales of the processes improve, flexible methods can be implemented, real-time manufacturing updates can be gained and within less time, more numbers of units can be produced. Such automobiles are also attracting many customers, who are interested in buying technologically advanced cars due to the multiple advantages generated from (Rockwell Automation, 2018).
Hence, automation is being cited as a targeted manufacturing activity in the automobile industry so that sales and demands can be boosted amongst the contemporary customers. However, as argued by Hanelt, Piccinini, Gregory, Hilde
andt and Kolbe (2015), problems have been identified in terms of identifying and using the appropriate technology for the automobiles because of the incessant pace of advancements that are taking place in case of automobiles.
Besides, another issue that vexes the automobile manufacturing units is the compatibility of the implemented automation techniques with the efficiency of the finished output. As supported by David (2015), automation also leads to redundancy of labour, which causes job loss to a large number of employees; hence, projecting as an undesirous step in the manufacturing department. Not only these, sometimes, the price of the automatic technique...
