Project Report & Presentation
Information to students
The assignment is organised into different parts that relate to the Learning Outcomes and
associated key elements of the 610 Managing Financial Resources.
This assessment is a group financial analysis project covering a multinational business
you are familiar with (hence easier to obtain information). The analysis should be compared
against at least one selected benchmark competitor.
Team Project
This is a team project.
• Marks awarded for Part A will be allocated to each team member unless otherwise agreed by
the team and/or an individual within the team, at the discretion of the tuto
assessing supervisor.
• Marks awarded for Part B are allocated both to the team (for planning, co-ordination, unity of
focus and coherence of structure) and to individual presenters (clear, convincing and
professional expression of individual section of the team presentation).
NB: If any team member does not contribute their fair share or otherwise acts to reduce or
hinder team performance, the team as a whole must address this issue and decide through
proper fair process how an alternative mark is to be allocated to that person. This must be
discussed with your tuto
assessing supervisor.
A list of team norms compiled at the Proposal stage should assist in this process.

PART A XXXXXXXXXXMARKS
Part A: The Written Report (50 marks)
The report should be between XXXXXXXXXXwords. This limit does not include references/
ibliography, diagram and other relevant appendices. The report should be bound in a suitable format
for presentation to senior management of the organisation under study.
The main aim/objective of the report is to evaluate the strategic performance of an organisation by
using a methodological tool called as a balanced scorecard (BSC). The BSC will help you to focus
on both financial and nonfinancial measures to evaluate the overall performance of the chosen
organization and to determine that whether the management of the firm has been successful in
accomplishing the strategic goals of the organisation or not. In order to perform this analysis, you
are expected to choose a business that operates in New Zealand and is listed on the stock
exchange (as you are required to conduct a detailed financial analysis of this organization at a
later stage) and also an organisation who is a major competitor for your chosen organisation so
that you can benchmark your findings against those of your competitor’s. From your analysis,
you are expected to identify the potential problems/hindrances/obstacles for the organization that are
thwarting it from accomplishing its objectives/goals. You are also required to provide SMART
ecommendations to the senior management of the organization which might help them to overcome
these obstacles/problems and inturn ameliorate the overall performance of the firm. You should
follow a recognised business report format as set out below.

Methodology
a. Prepare a Balanced scorecard for the chosen business and explain cogently how the
Balanced scorecard can be used to perform a strategic financial analysis
. Conduct an Environmental analysis on your firm by using the various Environmental
Analysis tools in order to understand the influence of macro and micro-environment on your
usiness ( Porters Five Forces, McKinsey’s 7s and/or other tools if applicable)
c. Perform a detailed financial ratio analysis on your chosen business which will include
evaluation of financial trends within the company over the past three years and then
enchmarking those trends against your competitor’s performance. You can use the following
esources to research about your organisation and obtain financial information:
1. Company Website
2. NZX website
3. NZX research centre
4. Annual Financial statements of the organisation
Findings
This is the information collected from various methods used. The findings should relate to your
objective of this financial analysis project. This information comes from three main sources:
a) The Environmental Analysis Strategic tool(s) used.
) Balance scorecard – primary (compulsory) and secondary (if applicable).
c) Financial ratio analysis derived and trends relevant to the study: You are expected to
perform a intra and inter-financial ratio analysis for your chosen business. This includes
calculating financial ratios for the past three years for the business under study and for
one year (the most recent one) for your competitor. In particular you will calculate four
atios for each of the following categories:
1. Profitability ratios
2. Asset Management ratios
3. Financial Structure ratios
4. Liquidity ratios
5. Market ratios
Findings are presented in summary form. Detail of the findings may be presented in appendices at the

and display information. Graphs, tables, charts, etc should have an appropriate title.
Please note, you are also expected to benchmark the financial performance of your firm against a
major competitor for the chosen business. This means that you will calculate all the ratios not only for
your chosen business but also for its competitor.

This describes how the information has been analysed so that it clearly conveys facts, trends, and
opinions to the reader. It also established what others – the report authors, financial research
